Two boaters went missing on February 6, 2026, near Vienna.
The two men left their vehicle around 5 a.m. and had not returned by 8 p.m. that night. Deputies were dispatched to the Vienna Boat Ramp to look for them. They were joined by ALEA, Alabama Game and Fish, the Carrollton Police Department, and Pickens County EMS.
Before first responders launched their boats, two local citizens had already begun their search. Those two citizens found the two men. One was holding onto a tree, and the other one was on the bank. They were both alive and brought safely back to shore. Sheriff Powell said he was proud of our community.
“Our civilians and first responders consis- tently step up when they are needed most, and this was a true example of that,” said Powell.
