Aliceville mourns another soldier killed in Operation Enduring Freedom; DoD to
investigate shooting

The War on Terror was brought a little close to home for Pickens County once
again as Aliceville recently lost another soldier deployed to Afghanistan as
part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Prisons Bureau awards contract to build prison
Mayor Billy McKinzey announced last Friday the awarding of the contract to build
the new federal detention facility near Aliceville.
Sessions to host energy forum in Aliceville today
WASHINGTON--U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) will host an energy forum at the
Museum of Cultural Arts Center in Aliceville at 9 a.m. today (Wednesday, Aug.
6).
Frederic Douglas Moore Jr., 43, of Tuscaloosa was arrested July 24 by agents of
the District Attorney
’s Office for the 24th Judicial Circuit and officers of the Alabama Department of
Public Safety, State Troopers Division, and charged with murder in the death of
John R. Eaton Jr., according to a press release from District Attorney Chris
McCool.
Moore arrested for April 20 vehicular murder

County well represented at AACD annual meeting

Pickens County was represented quite well at the Annual Meeting of the Area III
Alabama Association of Conservation Districts, held last Wednesday at the
Alabama 4-H Center near Columbiana.
