A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT
Relating to Fayette, Lamar, and Pickens Counties; to provide that any person
employed as an investigator by the Twenty-fourth Judicial Circuit who serves
for 10 years or more and leaves the office in good standing shall receive, at
the district attorney's discretion, his or her service pistol and badge; to
provide that investigators for the District Attorney of the Twenty-fourth
Judicial Circuit shall be hired pursuant to law; and to repeal Act 88-324 of
the 1988 Regular Session (Acts 1988, p. 492).
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
Section 1. (a) Any person employed as an investigator for the District Attorney
of the Twenty-fourth Judicial Circuit, composed of Fayette, Lamar, and Pickens
Counties, for a period of 10 years or more who leaves the office in good
standing, by retirement or otherwise, shall receive from the office, at the
discretion of the district attorney, without cost to him or her, his or her
service pistol and badge.
(b) Investigators for the District Attorney in the Twenty-fourth Judicial
Circuit shall be employed under the general law pursuant to Section 12-17-220.1
of the Code of Alabama 1975. Act 88-324 of the 1988 Regular Session (Acts 1988,
p. 492), relating to investigators for the District Attorney in the
Twenty-fourth Judicial Circuit is repealed.
Section 2. This act shall become effective on the first day of the third month
following its passage and approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming
law.

A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT
Relating to Pickens County; to amend Section 1 of Act 2010-590, 2010 Regular
Session (Acts 2010, p. 1323), providing for additional court costs in criminal
cases, to increase the drug enforcement fee
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
Section 1. Section 1 of Act 2010-590, 2010 Regular Session (Acts 2010, p. 1323),
is amended to read as follows:
"Section 1. In all juvenile, traffic, criminal, and quasi-criminal cases in the
juvenile, district, circuit, and municipal courts in Pickens County, a docket
fee, hereinafter referred to as a drug enforcement fee, shall be assessed in
each case. The drug enforcement fee shall be in an amount equal to twenty-seven
dollars ($27) in each non-drug case, eighty-two dollars ($82) in each
misdemeanor drug case, and one hundred seven dollars ($107) in each felony drug
case. The fees, when collected, shall be distributed monthly as follows: Five
dollars ($5) of the fees assessed in each case shall be retained by the clerk
of the court as an administrative fee. Ten dollars ($10) of the fees assessed
in each case in the municipal courts shall be distributed to the appropriate
fund established by the chief of police of the municipality and expended at his
or her discretion for law enforcement purposes. Ten dollars ($10) assessed in
each case in the circuit or district court shall be distributed to the Pickens
County Sheriff's Law Enforcement Fund for law enforcement purposes. The
remainder of the fee shall be distributed to the Drug Enforcement Fund
established by the district attorney."
Section 2. This act shall become effective on the first day of the third month
following its passage and approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming
law.
