Doug Sanders, Jr., Editor and Publisher
Sanders is a native of Aliceville, Ala. A 1975 graduate of Pickens Academy and
a 1978 graduate of The University of Alabama with a Bachelor
’s of Arts degree in Communication, Sanders began his journalism career at the
Pickens County Advertiser in January 1979. He joined the Pickens County Herald
in July 1982 and was named its Associate Editor in 1986; he was named Editor in
1991 and became Publisher in October 1996. He is married to the former Teresa
Williams of Fayette; she is the Editor of the Times-Record, a weekly newspaper
in Fayette, and they make their home in the Benevola community.
Ann Gates, Officer Manager
Mrs. Gates has been with the Pickens County Herald as Office Manager since
October 1996. She and her husband Gerald live in the Springhill community. They
have two sons and three grandchildren.
Kevin Strickland, Sports Editor
Strickland has been Sports Writer for the Pickens County Herald since 1994 and
was named Sports Editor in March 2001. He and his wife Tracy have two
daughters. Strickland has won several Alabama Press Association awards for his
sports writing and for his column
“From the Sidelines.”
Keith Huffman, Staff Writer
Huffman is a graduate student at the University of Alabama, seeking his master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling. His undergraduate degree was in
psychology, and he works part-time at the Herald.
